Plan for Winter
We have seen some mild weather over the last few months, but temperatures are dropping, or should I say dropped. Wurkplace have been busy putting a Health and Safety plan together for winter. Below we have picked our top nine points
Here are our top 9 points to keep your employees safe this winter.
- Keep all pathways clear, and all areas people will walk, carparks, reception, side of buildings, outside doorways
- Have plenty of salt and grit to hand, make sure you buy enough before suppliers run low.
- Night time is the best time to grit and salt, suggested by HSE best times are early in evening before the frost settles and/or early in the morning before employees arrive.
- Footwear is also important in wintertime, make sure you communicate sensible footwear.
- Be aware of water spills as water can freeze on concrete and can expand around 9 percent. Water in concrete freezes the pressure builds, and the concrete may rupture causing damage and danger to employees.
- Don’t forget to record all accidents ,reporting and recording are legal requirements. The report tells the enforcing authorities for occupational health and safety (HSE and local authorities) about serious incidents and cases of disease.
- Be flexible we wrote a blog on Top 5 Ways To Show Appreciation click the link and take a moment to reflect.
- Make sure all relevant internal and external lighting is working, especially around any steps, ramps, or car parks. Replace broken bulbs quickly
- Finally, be careful of entrance areas to any buildings as these can become slippery
